High School Choreographic Mentorship Program

The Choreographic Mentorship Program provides a unique opportunity for students who are interested in exploring the craft of choreography. Students meet weekly with professional dance mentors who guide them through the choreographic process with the goal of creating an original dance piece. The program offers an intensive learning experience that will allow the students to build their dance portfolio to prepare for the college level.

The program began virtually last year. Students worked with Philadelphia Ballet professional dancers Sterling Baca and Emily Davis. This year, the program expanded to four high schools and was able to take place in-person. The students’ work is centered on the theme of “invisibility.” The students will have the opportunity to present and perform their work at the Behind the Stage Door exhibition at the Cherry Street Pier on Saturday, April 30, 2022, and at the Teatro Esperanza at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2022.

The Choreographic Mentorship Program is part of Let’s Dance, Delphi Project Foundation (DPF)’s dance education program in partnership with Philadelphia Ballet. Let’s Dance also includes afterschool dance education programs for middle school level students in Philadelphia. For over 20 years, DPF has partnered with Philadelphia Ballet to bring access to high-level dance experiences for Philadelphia public school students.
