Save the Date: Behind the Stage Door Opening Night: April 29, 2022

March 2022

Delphi Project Foundation’s partnership with Philadelphia Ballet will culminate with a multimedia performance and visual art exhibition at the Cherry Street Pier this spring.

Building off the success of last year’s Spread Your Wings, this year’s Delphi Program theme is Behind the Stage Door. It will illuminate “behind the scenes” experiences and jobs that go into making a ballet performance come to life. Four stories will be shared including the work of the prop master, the costume designer, the relationship between the conductor and the dancer, and the backstory of a ballet dancer growing up under difficult circumstances.

Throughout this year, Delphi middle school and high school students have been learning dance and choreographic techniques. The dance students will have to opportunity to perform what they have learned at Cherry Street Pier. Delphi Teen Sketch students are creating works of art related to the theme that will be exhibited. In addition, four professional Philadelphia artists will be contributing works of art. The exhibit will also feature film, animation, and photography.

Philadelphia Ballet II (PBII) will perform original choreography set to an original score created specifically for this project. Opening night is Friday, April 29 at 7:00 p.m. Additional PBII performances will be held at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30. Delphi High School Dance students will perform at Cherry Street Pier at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 30. Delphi Middle School Dance students will be featured in an additional performance on Wednesday, May 4 at 6:00 p.m. The exhibition will remain on display at the Cherry Street Pier throughout the month of May.

The event and exhibition are free of charge; no tickets required. Cherry Street Pier is located at 121 N. Christopher Columbus Blvd, Philadelphia. Cherry Street Pier includes a casual waterfront garden restaurant, so stop by, enjoy the exhibition, have a bite to eat and enjoy, the waterfront views at this historic location.
